Jasper Teerlinck, alias Professor T, is the main character of the eponymous crime tv series Professor T. created by the Flemish screenwriter Paul Piedfort and produced by Skyline Entertainment. The Belgian TV drama series, entirely set in the city of Antwerp, centers around Jasper Teerlinck, an eccentric social sciences professor at the University of Antwerp who is asked to help the Antwerp Police Department investigate several baffling cases. Professor Jasper Teerlinck is represented as a kind of a quirky figure somehow in the tradition of the autistic detective inaugurated by Sherlock Holmes: his brilliant crime solving skills are matched by a whole range of neurological and social issues which make him distant and emotionless. Far from being simply flat characters, the other characters play an essential role in the series’ running plot: their feelings and features develop in a complex way throughout the narrative, contributing to instill in the viewers a sense of empathy towards the strange vicissitudes of Professor T. First broadcast in Belgium in 2015, the series soon became very popular.. As a result, not only the producers announced the creation of a second and then a third season (which appeared on the screen in 2016 and 2018 respectively), but and the format was acquired and remade in several different countries across Europe, and beyond: France (Prof. T, 2016), Germany (Professor T., four seasons 2017-20), and, more recently, the Czech Republic (Professor T. 2018), and the UK (Professor T., forthcoming).
