KU Leuven will celebrate its 600th anniversary in 2025, making it one of Europe’s oldest universities. The institution has the double honour of being the oldest university in the Low Countries and the oldest extant Catholic university in the world. KU Leuven is dedicated to education and research in nearly all fields. Its fifteen faculties offer education, while research activities are organized by the departments and research groups. These faculties and departments, in turn, are clustered into three groups: Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Engineering and Technology (SET), and Biomedical Sciences. Each of these groups has a doctoral school for its doctoral training programmes. KU Leuven boasts fourteen campuses, spread across 10 cities in Flanders. The Leuven team serves as leader of WP 2.

Jan Baetens
Prof. Jan Baetens is professor at the KU Leuven Faculty of Arts, where he teaches literary and cultural studies. He has a special interest in popular fiction (photo novel, novelization, comics, film photo novel) and adaptation studies. He is member of the executive board of IAWIS (International association of word and image studies). He is the coordinator of the BELSPO funded research network on “LMI” (2012-2017).
Fred Truyen
Prof. Fred Truyen is professor at the KU Leuven Faculty of Arts, where he is in charge of the mediaLab CS Digital. He is an expert in digitization, photography, e-learning, ICT education and epistemology, and data modelling for image databases in the cultural and historical field. He is a member of the Europeana member’s council and also co-promotor of several locally funded DH-projects at KU Leuven, such as Photolit and the Cornelia project.
Roberta Pireddu
Roberta Pireddu is working as a research assistant at KU Leuven’s Literary Theory and Cultural Studies department. She has recently earned an MSc in Digital Humanities at KU Leuven and she previously graduated from the University of Freiburg with an MA in Medieval and Renaissance Studies. Her research interests comprehend user’s engagement and interaction with the cultural heritage material as well as the use of the digital media to support historical analysis and research.
Ana Schultze
Ana Schultze is working as a research assistant at KU Leuven’s Literary Theory and Cultural Studies department. She is a recent graduate of the MSc in Digital Humanities and has previously obtained a BA and MA in Art History. Ana developed a strong interest in project management while curating exhibitions in the Leuven cultural sector. Her research focuses on the intersection of science and technology on one side, and the arts on the other.
